Mimslyn InnAward of Excellence for The Mimslyn Inn

Luray, VA- The Mimslyn Inn has been honored with an Award of Excellence from The Virginia Downtown
Development Association (VDDA). In an “Awards Dinner Ceremony” on October 2nd, VDDA announced The Mimslyn Inn was being recognized for their excellence in the category of Building Development and
Improvements in a community with a population size less than 25,000.

The Inn’s owners, Mr. and Mrs. Erwin Asam, were presented with the award at VDDA’s 24th Annual Conference in Portsmouth, VA. VDDA Awards of Excellence recognizes and encourages excellence in downtown revitalization throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. The Asams were proud to accept this honor and be a part of “preserving Luray’s history while stimulating the economy downtown”.

The Mimslyn Inn, built in 1931, had fallen into disrepair until purchased in 2005 by the Asams, owners of the Bavarian Inn in Shepherdstown, WV. Restoration efforts and investment by the Asam Family has returned the inn to its original status as Virginia’s “Grand Inn”. Beautifully restored hardwood floors, grand entryways, and crystal chandeliers have been “dressed” in elegant fabrics, rich patterns, and classic furnishings that fill guest and common rooms. Exterior brickwork, interior finishes, paint, windows, and floors have all been retouched, repaired and modernized. The previously unfinished basement is now home to a day spa, fitness room, and restaurant/bar fondly named The Speakeasy. The formal dining room is called, Circa ’31, as a tribute to Inn’s beginning.

The Mimslyn Inn and Luray continue to attract attention from local, regional and national organizations. The Inn’s commitment to responsible redevelopment and historic preservation has also earned it several prestigious accreditations and recognitions. The National Trust Historic Hotels of America, a program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, has selected The Mimslyn Inn as one of the “200 quality hotels that have faithfully maintained their historic architecture and ambience”. The Inn’s Circa ‘31 has earned Wine
Spectator’s Award of Excellence, recognizing “dining destinations who share a dedication to wine and offer a well-chosen selection of quality producers, along with a thematic match to the menu in both price and style”.

Luray has been a designated Virginia Main Street Community since 2004, is recognized as a National Main Street Community by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, and is also a recipient of several VDDA Awards of Excellence.

Experience the renewed downtown of Luray, anchored by the beautifully restored structure reminiscent of Virginia's "Grand Inns": The Mimslyn Inn.
